I first met the lady behind Makers Meals at a different meal. We both attended one of the first Pineapple Collab's sit down's at Sally's Middle Name and some how through being in the DC Loop Amber and I got to know each other pretty well. I was quite excited this past summer when Amber and her partner in crime Ashleigh hosted one of their gorgeous meals at Wollam Gardens, and this past month she hosted a wounderful afternoon at Wildroots Apothecary. After both of these magical events I'm hooked on there mission to create beautiful events that highlight our amazing DC area "maker" community.
Here is a little bit from both of these magical fairytale days.
Makers Meals at Wollam Gardens
Dreamy Wollam Gardens is situated in a small village 60 miles west of Washington D.C. The farm specializes in fine cut flowers and is a fixture at both the Bethesda and Dupont Farmers Markets every week. They also host weekly yoga classes, flower events, workshops and yes weddings. During our time at Wollam we toured the grounds, ate dinner al fresco under their gorgeous pavilion and sat and listened to folk music around the camp fire while wearing a beautiful flower crown I made right before dinner.
Makers Meals at Wild Roots Apothecary
I can't even begin to tell you guys how excited I was about this workshop. Firstly I love anything that has to do with eating food, but secondly I love herbs and tonics and I was so excited that Colleen the woman behind Wild Roots would be leading a small workshop on seasonal tonics. The workshop paired with the gorgeous setting and late lunch provided by Chef Ryan Ross who created a ridiculously delicious plant based meal.
How cute is this shop? Colleen has just about curated the most beautiful apothecary anyone has probably seen with her own goodies within as well as new favorites I had not heard off before. They also provided us with an incredible Hot Toddy!
I'm still dreaming of this cake by the way, it was probably the best I've ever had...and I've had a lot of cake.
So my dream pals if you ever find yourselves with the opportunity to attend one of Amber and Ashleigh's incredible community building meals please do it, you will not regret it.
