I live for brunch. Lately, I have no time for it in my life, but I still live for brunch. However, I was excited when Sakerum DC reached out to me to come in and try their new Bento Brunch that recently launched...if you know me I'm a sucker for good sushi so of course I cleared my schedule and said yes.
If you haven't been to Sakerum on 14th Street you're truly missing out on this gorgeous oasis in the middle of the city. The upstairs bar/lounge area is pure perfection, and one of the most instagramable spots in the city....you know for those of us who are into that kind of thing. The first thing you'll notice is the amazing glass roof that opens up on sunny warm days, the natural light in this room is perfection both warm and inviting.
So what is a Bento Box? Bento's are traditional in Japanese culture as single-portion takeout boxes. Historically they are dated to the Sang Dynasty, with the root of the word bento being "convenient." I'm all about a practically delicious brunch which is exactly what this was.
To start we must recommend that you get the Spicy Edamame to start off, it's just the right hit of spice to get your appetite going. Then move on to one of the Bento boxes, the Bento's at Sakerum are everything. They are large and in charge and full of deliciousness. The Brunch menu at Sakerum is amazing, the variety is just cray...I mean it's so much more than just sushi. Which get the Sushi Bento box, it's killer, the fish is fresh and the side of edamame is just everything. Also they make fried plantains all of us raised with hispanic parents can appreciate!
Sakerum is much more than just the food too, the drinks are incredible. They're imaginative and a little different that most places you'll visit in DC. I particularly loved the Lychee Mimosa...b/c Lychee is obviously BAE.
So, have you made your reservations yet? No...here you go! Brunch at Sakerum is hosted Saturdays and Sundays from 11-3 PM!
